Why We Should Always Sleep in the Dark?

Are you scared of the darkness and therefore you prefer to sleep in the light? Many people have this fear of darkness due to which they always make sure that there is always some kind of light glowing inside their home even when they are asleep. Well, nothing really wrong with that because different people have different kinds of fear and that is very natural. However, as per the research done by few experts and scientists it has now been studied that sleeping in the darkness is always beneficial for human health and that people sleeping in the dark always get the maximum advantage out of it.

It has been seen that most people who work at night always prefer to stay in light because they are working or at least watching TV when they are at home at night. Hence, they are always around some kind of light which plays on their mind. They get used to seeing light around them and therefore they prefer to keep their night light on when they are sleeping. On the other hand, people who go to bed early prefer to sleep in the dark because they are conscious about their health and their sleep.

As per the latest research done on this subject, a group of mice were used which were split into two groups. One group was allowed 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness while the other group had 13 hours of light and 11 hours of darkness. After the research it was found that the mice in the second group had undergone various cell changes and genetic changes as well that elevated the chances of cancer in them. The same was then experimented on humans and the results were almost identical as many patients had chances of getting affected with human cancer.

Researchers who wanted to probe further found that night light can greatly affect one of our body hormones known as Melatonin. This hormone is secreted inside our body and helps in regulating the wake-sleep cycle which is very important for good health. The hormone works like a biological clock and allow us to wake up and sleep on time. However, the production of melatonin gets affected if any kind of light is on while we are asleep. Hence, you should never have any kind of light when you are sleeping like mobile phone light, alarm clock light and even night lamps. On further investigation it was found that melatonin is the hormone that helps in keeping control over various dangerous tumors that can become cancer at a later stage. Hence, doctors now believe that it is wiser to sleep in the dark than in the night light because you can save yourself from becoming a cancer patient in the future. Many even believe that we must switch off all the cell phones and other electrical appliances like TV to make sure that we get a sound sleep and produce more melatonin to help us keep healthy and fit.
